Yes,Take Back America, But Do It Permanently
Today marks another day of the government shut-down. Trump’s tariffs are being found illegal, and his approval rating is at an all time low. The people who oppose him are working together. This push-back is the effort that is needed. What has occurred here is a galvanizing of efforts to defeat the Republican Trump agenda. A unified public that shows strength in recognizing the weakness of a failing administration. This happened in less than a year of Trump’s administration. This is a fortunate occurrence that such opposition has grown in the public masses.
There could be a problem in the future. If a complete unity of effort can form quickly, will it dissolve just as quickly? The problem of power grabs, greedy corporations, fascists, and racists will not stay knocked down. This is assuming that we can successfully knock them down. A battle of wills is being waged. Obama won the presidency in 2012 without a doubt. It was not a close race. He had been projected as the winner before 10 PM Central time. It was a decisive victory. So what happened? Did people think we had all moved on? Some may have hoped that the right wing was dead. It was a new century and a new era. The world was ready for a change. These were the hopes many had.
These hopes were lost when Trump won the first time. Suspicions of how truly evil Trump’s agenda had some people talking back then. There may have been some doubt then, but today we see just what Republicans are made of. Articles about the Young Republicans exchanging chats with Nazi slogans and racial slurs. Billionaire bailouts and tax cuts. Failed and possibly illegal tariffs that drove up the price of many items. Fewer jobs and no affordable housing. ICE raids, deportations, and military invasions of cities. The final straw was the loss of affordable healthcare. America is ready for a change.
This time it needs to be different. There are people of all walks of life in this struggle. The people are very different, yet the cause unifies us all. The people can be strong, but they need to stay strong. Liberal in-fighting could tear down what could be a brilliant future. A government based on the greater good of all, will need to be flexible. We need to be understanding and considerate, but not weak and compromising. The people will never agree on everything, but problems can be worked out. A plan can be worked out through logic and reason. Kindness and understanding should prevail. There is enough for everyone’s need, but not everyone’s greed. None of this is new. America at one time had a 90% tax rate on the rich, anti-trust laws, strong unions, and a reverence for higher learning. This could all be achieved again.
